The signing took place at a meeting in Hanoi Wednesday where UNICEF released a report on the State of the World's Children 2019 themed children, food and nutrition. The report assessed nutritional states of children in the 21st century either undernourished or overweight. Rana Flowers, UNICEF Representative in Vietnam, said that in the 3rd decades of the 21st century, we celebrate achievements in nutritional fields but have to realize shortcomings and challenges. Vietnam can reduce the percentage of undernourished or overweight, she added.
Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam told the meeting that Vietnam will work with the UNICEF to improve nutrition for ethnic children in remote northern and Central Highlands regions. He said the Vietnamese government has adopted a national strategy on nutrition from 2011-2020 and a vision to 2030.
“We have to enhance efforts to improve the state of malnutrition, stunt, and low and over weight according to the government’s strategy. It’s the task of not only the health sector but also authorities at all levels and organizations. It’s the awareness of all people and society,” Mr. Dam said.
