The delegation from the Vietnamese National Assembly was led by Le Tan Toi, Chairman of the Assembly’s Committee for National Defense, Security and External Relations.
At the general debate, Mr. Toi highlighted the complex challenges the world is facing. He proposed that parliaments continue to improve upon their national legal frameworks for protecting people during emergencies and crises.
In addition, resources should be allocated more effectively for relief and recovery programmes and participation in social organisations, businesses, and local communities should be encouraged.
Countries need to enhance supervision of international humanitarian commitments to ensure that pledges are fulfilled, he said, calling on parliaments to strengthen dialogue, cooperation, and experience sharing.
The Vietnamese delegation took part in sessions of the Standing Committee on Peace and International Security and the Standing Committee on Sustainable Development. Its statements at those meetings received broad support and were included in the Assembly’s outcome document.
