The project began in 2019 with a total budget of 4.6 million USD, with support from the Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam. This key project celebrates 75 years since the establishment of the Lao People’s Army and the 103rd birthday of President Kaysone Phomvihane.

Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Chansamone Chanyalath, said that the restoration updates the museum into an archive center of historical artifacts and victorious events of the Lao People’s Army under the leadership of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party.

The museum attracts a large number of domestic and foreign tourists to study important historical events. Covering an area of 17,000 square meters in Vientiane, the Lao People’s Army History Museum opened in 1976 and has been renovated many times.
