(VOVworld) - The 46th ASEAN Foreign Minister Meeting (AMM) and related meetings have wrapped up in Brunei after 3 days. Vietnamese Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh said:“The major outcome of the meeting was a Joint Statement highlighting ASEAN member countries’ determination to achieve the goals set out in the roadmap to build an ASEAN Community by 2015. ASEAN Foreign Ministers and ASEAN partners agreed that ASEAN should better perform its leading role in the evolving regional architecture, and its vital role in dealing with important regional issues and promoting relations with ASEAN’s partners. The conference emphasized the need to strengthen solidarity and consensus in dealing with the bloc’s affairs, regional issues and relations with other countries. In regard to the East Sea, all countries emphasized the importance of peace, security, safety and freedom of navigation. They particularly noted the need to quickly develop the Code of Conduct of Parties in the East Sea".
At the meetings, Vietnam made significant contributions to cooperation within ASEAN and between ASEAN and its dialogue partners as well as within the Mekong cooperation framework. Minister Minh said: "Vietnam and other ASEAN countries contributed to the development of new common documents. Vietnam highlighted the importance of strengthening solidarity and ASEAN’s central and leading role in the regional structure and of building an ASEAN Community by 2015. Vietnam proposed an “ASEAN Declaration on Strengthening Cooperation on Disaster Management" to be issued at the upcoming 23rd ASEAN Summit in October 2013 to heighten ASEAN’s central role in this field".

Vietnam also made a significant contribution to boosting cooperation between Mekong River Commission countries and their partners- Japan, the Republic of Korea, and the US. It proposed strengthening cooperation in the proper and sustainable management and use of water resources and research on the sustainable management and development of the Mekong River.
