Speaking with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during the 10th Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Foreign Ministers' Meeting in China’s Yunnan province, Deputy PM Son proposed expanding cooperation in defence and security, trade, and science and technology. He called for giving top priority to railway projects, including the Lao Cai–Hanoi–Hai Phong route, with construction to start this year.

Mr. Wang said China is ready to work closely with Vietnam to increase imports of Vietnamese goods, strengthen transportation infrastructure links, boost high-quality investment, and expand collaboration in science, technology, artificial intelligence, and the digital economy. He acknowledged Vietnam’s active role in the Mekong-Lancang framework and urged member states to strengthen coordination.

The two sides agreed to manage maritime differences and maintain peace and stability in the East Sea. Mr. Son called for mutual respect for sovereignty, sovereign rights, and jurisdiction as defined by international law, particularly the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS); avoidance of unilateral actions that could escalate tensions; proper handling of fishing vessel and fisherman issues; and the peaceful settlement of disputes.
