Vietnam, Cambodia seek ways to strengthen ties

(VOVWORLD) - Fruitful relations between Vietnam and Cambodia and between Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia have contributed to the prosperity and global status of each country, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said while receiving President of the Cambodian Senate Samdech Say Chhum in Hanoi on Tuesday.

The two discussed orientations to boost bilateral ties, particularly high-level meetings between the two Parties, Governments, and National Assemblies. 

It's important to educate the younger generations of both countries about the traditional relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia, they said.

The guest noted that Cambodia will continue to work with Vietnam in nurturing and protecting bilateral ties.

At a reception for the Cambodian Senate President the same day, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc suggested Vietnam and Cambodia maintain high-level contact and promote cooperation through all channels to consolidate political trust, safeguard independence, strengthen self-reliance and ensure prosperity.

Mr. Phuc also called for joint efforts to complete the planting of border markers towards a border of peace, friendship and cooperation between the two countries. He asked the Cambodian Senate to continue supporting the Vietnamese community and Vietnamese businesses operating in Cambodia.

Meeting with Senate President Samdech Say Chhum, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said Vietnam and Cambodia should help each other build an independent and self-reliant economy resilient to external shock. 

President Samdech Say Chhum said that Cambodia is working hard to further reinforce the solidarity, sound neighbourliness, comprehensive, stable and long-standing ties between the two countries.

The two sides agreed to continue to efficiently implement existing cooperation agreements in defence and security, while cooperating to complete the border demarcation and border marker planting.
