Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, head of Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to the UN, emphasized the importance of ensuring security and safety, especially for women and children, the Mali security forces, and the UN peacekeeping force. The Ambassador praised the G5 Sahel, the African Union, MINUSMA, and France for their role in fighting terrorism in West Africa and the Sahel, and called for measures to support Mali cope with the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Mahamat Saleh Annadif, Special Representative of the Secretary General, implementation of the Agreement on Peace and Reconciliation in Mali has made some progress, but security in Mali is still a problem because terrorist activity has not noticeably decreased.
