Vietnam calls for continued assistance from the WB and IMF

(VOVworld) – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has praised the World Bank’s decision to include Vietnam in its list of countries to receive preferential loans over the next 3 years. At a reception for WB President Jim Yong Kim, Prime Minister Dung said he appreciated the bank’s efforts to persuade donors to contribute funding to the International Development Association (IDA) and its increasingly important role in Vietnam’s development, particularly in the years to come.

WB President Jim Yong Kim commended Vietnam’s poverty reduction achievements and pledged continued development assistance for Vietnam. He added that the WB will support Vietnam in accessing IDA loans along with policy consultation and technical assistance.

During talks with Director of the International Monetary Fund Christine Lagarde Prime Minister Dung expressed his appreciation for the IMF’s cooperation with and support for Vietnam. He said that the Vietnamese government is consistent in its targets of stabilizing the macro-economy, controlling inflation, completing the market economy institution, developing human resources and infrastructure.

He asked the IMF to work more closely with the Vietnamese government in policy consultation and appraisal and to increase policy dialogue with and technical assistance to Vietnam. Director Lagarde expressed her belief that with its synchronized measures Vietnam will overcome the challenges its macro-economy is facing.
