The visit, made at the invitation of the Chief of the Royal Australian Defence Force, General Mark Binskin, aims to strengthen friendly relations and defense cooperation between Vietnam and Australia. The meeting between General Do Ba Ty, who is also Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, and General Binskin focused on ways to effectively implement the Memorandum of Understanding on Defense Cooperation signed in 2010. The two countries have agreed to maintain dialogue and consultation mechanisms in the framework of multilateral and regional cooperation and to continue exchanging delegations. General Do Ba Ty said Vietnam hopes to receive continued assistance from Australia to repair the effects of war as well as support at regional and global forums.
