Vietnam attends the 136th IPU meeting in Bangladesh

(VOVworld) - The 136th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) General Assembly opened in the Bangladesh capital of Dhaka, on Saturday, focusing on taking decisive actions to end the rising social, political and economic inequalities and not to interfere into the internal affairs of states at the present global context.

A total of 670 parliamentarians and 164 delegations from 132 countries are attending the 5-day mega event. The Vietnamese delegation was led by Deputy Chairwoman of the National Assembly Tong Thi Phong.

On the same day, the IPU Forum of Women Parliamentarians took place at the Bangabandu International Conference Center, where the Vietnamese delegation recommended the tripartite cooperation model involving the IPU, its member parliaments, and international organizations to support women in developing countries to have better access to financial services.   

The Vietnamese delegation also participated in the ASEAN+3 meeting and a meeting of the Asia-Pacific group.

On the sidelines of the forums, Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly Committee for External Relations, Nguyen Van Giau received a delegation of Thai parliamentarians. The Thai side said they wanted to receive more support from neighboring countries including Vietnam.
