Addressing the meeting on Tuesday, Ambassador Mai Phan Dung, Head of Vietnam's Permanent Delegation to the UN, on behalf of the Core Group of the Resolution on Human Rights and Climate Change, which includes Vietnam, Bangladesh, and the Philippines, highlighted that protecting the livelihoods of vulnerable groups affected by climate change is a critical priority for developing countries.

He pointed out that climate change and extreme weather events are increasingly causing significant damage to homes, ecosystems, and infrastructure, thereby weakening economies and affecting the basic human rights of vulnerable populations. He called on the international community to enhance cooperation in effectively addressing the impact of climate change on livelihoods.

Furthermore, he stressed the importance of the effective operation of the Loss and Damage Fund, established at COP 28 in Dubai last year, to provide necessary financial resources to communities affected by climate change, particularly in developing nations.
