The statement came one day after US President Donald Trump announced to double steel and aluminum tariffs on Turkey to 50% and 20%, respectively. The Lira has dropped 20% of value against USD to a record low.

On Saturday, Chairman of the Turkish National Assembly Binali Yildirim said the tensions of US-Turkey relations have escalated after American pastor Andrew Brunson suspected of being linked to a terrorist group was arrested by the Ankara government. Earlier, President Erdogan said Ankara can find new allies if it does not see any respect and reciprocation in bilateral relations with the US.
