US Vice President Kamala Harris begins Vietnam visit

(VOVWORLD) -Vice President of the United States Kamala Harris began activities of her official visit to Vietnam from Tuesday to Thursday, at the invitation of Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan.

The welcoming ceremony for the US Vice President took place at the Presidential Palace on Wednesday morning.

Later on Wednesday, Ms. Harris is scheduled to meet with leaders to discuss the COVID-19 pandemic situation, regional security and economic cooperation. She will inaugurate the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Hanoi Office, which will serve as the US CDC's regional office for Southeast Asia that deals with infectious diseases.

The visit is taking place at a time when the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Partnership continues development momentum thanks to the relationship foundation built and cultivated by the two sides over the past 26 years in all fields and in three aspects: bilaterally, regionally and globally.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnam and the US have continued to maintain various forms of exchanges and phone calls at all levels to promote multifaceted cooperation and handle issues of mutual interest, especially on commercial matters. The visit also contributes to strengthening ties and expanding economic cooperation between Washington and its important partners in the Indo-Pacific region.
