This has been the 26th attack by the Houthi militants targeting commercial shipping routes in the Red Sea since November 19, 2023. There has been no report on injuries or damages.
The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported on drone activity about 50 nautical miles west of Yemen’s Hodeida port. The international force deployed to protect shipping routes in the Red Sea has been responding to the actions.
In December, to counter Houthi attacks in the Red Sea, the US and its allies established Operation Guardian of Prosperity to protect shipping traffic, which accounts for 12% of all global marine trade.
Many shipping companies, including Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd, have temporarily stopped traveling through the Red Sea and changed to a longer route around the Cape of Good Hope past South Africa.
