US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Tuesday that the US is taking aggressive steps to protect its staffs in embassies and consulates worldwide, denying that Washington was warned of an imminent attack in Libya. After having met with Mexican Secretary of Foreign Relations Patricia Espinosa, Clinton said there was no actionable intelligence prior to the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi. She stressed that the US is reviewing its security posture at every post and augmenting it where necessary, adding that the US would not rest until those behind the killings of four Americans in an attack in Benghazi are brought to justice.  The FBI has launched an investigation inside Libya, and Clinton said the U.S. was working with the Libyan government to find out who murdered the four American employees.

The same day, President Barack Obama said on CBS that he expected governments in the Muslim world to protect American diplomats. He said “The message we have to send to the Muslim world is that we expect you to work with us, to keep our people safe”.
