The soldiers, from the III Corps at Fort Hood in Texas, will serve as a top unit in the coalition force fighting the IS known as the Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve – the US Army announced Wednesday.
The Pentagon said the deployment is estimated to cost 3.2 billion USD.
On Wednesday, the US began to launch its first air strikes on IS forces in Syria from the Incirlik air base, southern Turkey.
IS has posted a video clip threatening to conduct terror attacks in Germany on the group’s YouTube account on Wednesday. During the 5-minute video clip, a IS militant spoke German in an Austrian accent, calling for extremists to join the IS in Syria to conduct terror attacks in Germany and Austria. The militant also threatened to take revenge on German Chancellor Angela Merkel for Germany's involvement in the Afghan war and supplying weapons to the Kurdish forces to fight IS.
