The rare collaboration was made at the UN Security Council’s meeting on Wednesday, in which the council was expected to adopt a resolution on imposing sanctions individuals, businesses and governments that associate with the IS.
The resolution jointly drafted by the US and Russia highlighted the implementation of asset freeze, travel and arms ban.
The resolution also asked UN members to take more assertive steps to cut off the funding of the IS, including its smuggling of oil, and to stanch the supply of fighters and materials going to the group in Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Libya and other countries where it operates.
