(VOVworld) – US President Barack Obama will visit Cuba next month, multiple US and diplomatic sources said on Wednesday.

ABC News said the White House is finalizing preparations for a visit in March. Obama will become the first US president to make a state visit to Cuba since 1928. He has said he wants to visit Cuba before leaving office in 2017.

The trip, long anticipated, follows his administration’s formally reopening ties with Havana in late 2014, after a half-century of enmity.
