The strike came a day after the US and Britain launched multiple airstrikes targeting Houthis. The US Navy on Friday warned American-flagged vessels to steer clear of areas around Yemen in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden for the next 72 hours after the initial airstrikes.

The United States and Britain on Friday defended to the UN Security Council the legality of strikes they launched against Yemen's Houthis who have been attacking Red Sea shipping.

Russia and China accused the Western allies of escalating regional tensions.
