(VOVworld) – The US Agency for International Development (USAID) on Wednesday allocated an additional 1.7 million USD to help Vietnam fight H5N1 bird flu epidemic and other new infectious diseases including H7N9 flu.

The money channeled via the UN Food and Agriculture Organization will help the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to improve precautions against avian flu and other animal diseases. This funding will also be allocated to central and local veterinary agencies and laboratories to research the viruses by collecting and analyzing poultry samples. The aid package will seek to improve veterinary network, particularly the diagnosis and supervision of new vaccines and viruses.
