(VOVworld) – The plan to close the US prison at Guantanamo Bay, which Cuba claims the US illegally occupies, does not include returning the facility to Cuba. US Secretary of State John Kerry told the US House Committee on Foreign Affairs on Thursday that there is no such plan that he is aware of, adding that he would personally oppose it.

Returning the 117-square-kilometer Guantanamo base was one of 3 prerequisites by Cuba for normalizing relations with the US, along with lifting economic sanctions, and ending American hostility towards Cuba. To date, the US has not touched on the issue of Guantanamo in any negotiations.
