(VOVworld) – The US will cooperate with Germany in resolving problems following the arrest of a German double agent suspected of working for the Central Intelligence Agency. White House spokesman Josh Earnest stated that America was cooperating with Berlin in handling the matter and underlined the importance of US-German relation which were built on respect and decades of cooperation and shared values. The US refused to offer any comment as the subject is under investigation. During her current trip to China, German Chancellor Angela Merkel  said that if the reports were correct, the incident would be a serious one that ran counter to bilateral trust.

As Reuters reported in another development, two US officials confirmed the CIA’s role but spoke on condition of anonymity, and offered no further details. CIA Director John Brennan had asked to brief Congress on the subject but it was unclear whether the request had been approved.
