The US-led military coalition said in a statement that K1 Air Base, which lies 15 kilometers northwest of Kirkuk, was given to Iraqi forces on Sunday. The statement said the move has nothing to do with recent missile attacks against US-occupied bases in Iraq.
Earlier, the Iraqi parliament passed a resolution calling on the government to expel foreign forces from Iraq. Nonetheless, the US-led coalition says it will maintain a presence in Iraq and is preparing a new strategy against Iran-backed militia groups.
