In a US-European joint statement, US and European foreign ministers strongly urged all participants to negotiate in good faith and use the opportunity to finalize agreement on the formation of a national unity government and make arrangements for an unconditional ceasefire. The statement highlighted that only through compromise could Libya move toward a more secure, stable, and prosperous future.
Libya is facing escalating violence and political deadlock with the existence of two governments and legislative bodies. The instability has caused a severe humanitarian crisis, killing 1,000 and forcing 120,000 to leave their homes.
