(VOVworld) - The US and North Korean representatives praised last weekend’s informal talks in Singapore covering Pyongyang's nuclear program, among other issues. Speaking to the press after the meeting with a US delegation that included former US special envoy to North Korea policy Stephen Bosworth, former nuclear negotiator Joseph DeTrani, and Korean-American scholar Tony Namkung, Mr Ri Yong Ho, Vice-Foreign Minister and chief negotiator for the North Korea team said Pyongyang is ready to suspend nuclear tests if the US cancels annual military drills with South Korea.  North Korea insisted that the official proposal was made through “appropriate channels” and was “meaningful and significant”, saying that canceling the annual military drills is the initial step in easing tensions on the Korean peninsula.

Mr Bosworth said the talks were very constructive, focusing on what has happened and might happen in the future. He reiterated that the US administration’s goal is still to resume six-party talks and denuclearize Korean Peninsula.
