Steel and aluminum users that depend on imported products not available from US producers may have to wait up to 90 days for an exclusion from the Trump administration’s new metals tariffs, according to a Commerce Department document.
Trump imposed tariffs of 25 percent on imports of steel and 10 percent for aluminum last week, but the tariffs will not go into effect until next Friday. While only Canada and Mexico are currently exempted from the tariffs, the White House has said other countries could also seek exemptions.
