(VOVworld) – The US Embassy in Sana'a, Yemen has a very limited ability to assist with emergency cases involving US citizens and will not offer routine consular services, the US State Department said on Monday.

The embassy will close until further notice and continue analyzing security conditions in order to resume consular operations as soon as possible. The State Department also warned of the high security threat level in Yemen due to terrorist activities and civil unrest and urged Americans not to travel to Yemen.

Also on Monday, UN Special Envoy Jamal Benomar met with Houthi leaders and 16 political parties in order to build a consensus on peace. He also met with leaders from Gulf countries who strongly supported the Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

This is part of the UN’s steps to seek peaceful solutions to the political crisis in Yemen.
