This is the first meeting between the two leaders since Xi Jinping became president in March and President Barack won the second term. Mr. Obama said their decision to meet so early in Mr Xi's term signifies the importance of the US-China relationship. He said the US welcomed the rise of a peaceful China and wanted "economic order where nations are playing by the same rules". Obama admitted the two countries have some differences but cooperation is for the benefit of the two sides.
