(VOVWORLD) - Top US and Chinese trade negotiators haggled on Thursday over the details of a set of agreements aimed at ending their trade war, just one week before a Washington-imposed deadline for a deal expires and triggers higher US tariffs.

The seventh-round of talks since last February are headed by Chinese Vice-Premier Liu He and US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer.

The White House has said the meetings are aimed at bringing about needed structural changes in China’s trade policy and fulfillment of China’s pledge to purchase a substantial amount of goods and services from the US. Bloomberg has reported that China intends to buy an additional 30 billion USD a year of US agricultural imports.
