US Press Secretary Jen Psaki said the talks would last a few hours, during which the two would discuss ways to responsibly manage the competition between the US and China, as well as ways to work together where their interests align.
Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying said the two Presidents would exchange their thoughts on the bilateral relationship and issues of mutual concern.
In a letter to the National Committee on US-China Relations, President Xi said China’s relationship with the US is at a critical juncture.
