The Ambassador paid a courtesy visit to Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son on Wednesday at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hanoi.

Discussing the relationship between the two countries, Minister Son asked Mr. Knapper to coordinate in promoting the visits of the two countries' senior leaders in 2022 and to exchange delegations and contacts at all levels.

He asked for close coordination with Vietnamese ministries and sectors to further cooperation in priority areas such as post-pandemic economic recovery, food supply chain resilience, high-quality infrastructure, green growth, and human resources development.

Expressing views on the regional and global situation related to Ukraine, the Foreign Minister reaffirmed Vietnam's consistent stance that international disputes and disagreements should be resolved by peaceful means in compliance with the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and international law.

He stressed the need to ensure the safety of civilians, including Vietnamese in Ukraine, to evacuate from the combat zone.

The two sides emphasized the compliance with international law and agreed to continue working closely in regional frameworks, especially those of the ASEAN and Mekong sub-regional cooperation.
