Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Head of the Vietnamese delegation to the UN, expressed concern about the use or threat of force in international relations, which is contrary to the UN Charter and threatens international peace and security.
The Ambassador urged countries to build friendly relations, uphold the UN Charter and international law, adhere to the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and non-interference in internal affairs, and not use or threaten to use force. The UN Security Council should promote compliance with international law and strengthen the role of international law and the UN Charter in maintaining international peace and security. It should enhance coordination with regional organizations and international legal agencies in resolving disputes, maintaining peace, and preventing conflicts, said the Vietnamese Ambassador.
The UN Security Council also discussed ongoing violence in the Central African Republic. Ambassador Quy said he is concerned about the humanitarian situation there in recent years, and emphasized the importance of international assistance in resolving the situation in the Central African Republic, particularly by African Union, the Central African Economic Community, and the UN.
