(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam is an active member in the 10-year #IBelong Campaign launched by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in 2014 to end statelessness, according to James Lynch, UNHCR’s Regional Representative for South-East Asia.

At a meeting with Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister To Anh Dung in Hanoi on Friday, Lynch also spoke highly of Vietnam’s role in the Bali Process on preventing people smuggling, trafficking in persons and related transnational crime, and pledged to continue cooperating with Vietnam in areas of mutual interest. Deputy FM Dung appreciated the UNHCR’s cooperation in the past time and thanked the agency for its positive assessment of Vietnam’s efforts and achievements in addressing the issue of statelessness. He called on the UNHCR to continue providing administrative and technical support for Vietnam to successfully organise the 14th Meeting of the Ad Hoc Group Senior Officials of the Bali Process and to implement the Global Compact on Refugees (GCR) based on Vietnam’s conditions.
