UNESCO honors Ho Xuan Huong for wisdom, humanity, and feminism, says President

(VOVWORLD) -President Nguyen Xuan Phuc has described UNESCO-honored Ho Xuan Huong as a talented female poet and a unique phenomenon of Vietnamese classical literature with her works expressing an in-depth humanistic thought.

President Phuc addressed a ceremony to commemorate 250 years of Ho Xuan Huong‘s birth and 200 years of her death, on Saturday evening in Vinh city, Nghe An province, her home province.

The President emphasized that Ho Xuan Huong is a cultural celebrity of humankind and praised UNESCO for giving the female poet a glorious mission of inspiring and spreading positive influence to people around the world.

“We honor female poet Ho Xuan Huong, which means we honor the virtues and wisdom of traditional Vietnamese women. We also see the efforts of the Vietnamese Party and State for the rights and equality of women through capitalizing on Vietnamese women’s great contribution to the struggle for national independence, freedom and construction, as well as their positions in the ranks of the country's leaders and leaders of agencies and organizations of all generations."

"By recognizing and honoring the noble, lasting human values of Ho Xuan Huong's thought and personality, UNESCO honors the beauty in the soul, wisdom, humanity and friendship of the Vietnamese,” he said. 

President Phuc called on researchers continue to study and clarify the ideological and artistic values in the works of female poet Ho Xuan Huong and publicize them to the wider public at home and abroad. 

At the ceremony, UNESCO Chief Representative in Vietnam Christian Manhart presented the Resolution honoring female poet Ho Xuan Huong to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam and Nghe An province.
