The 16th session of the UNESCO's Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, in Paris, on Wednesday considered 48 nominations to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Xoe Thai art is the 14th intangible cultural heritage of Vietnam inscribed by UNESCO and the 5th title of Vietnam honored by this organization this year.

In Thai language, "Xoe" means dance with movements symbolizing human activities in rituals, cultural activities, life, and labor. Xoe is performed in ceremonies, weddings, festivals, and cultural events of the community.

Earlier this year UNSECO recognized Vietnam’s Nui Chua and Kon Ha Nung as the World Biosphere Reserves and honored two Vietnamese poets Nguyen Dinh Chieu and Ho Xuan Huong as cultural celebrities.
