His regional tour previously took him to Turkey, Jordan, Iraq, Egypt, Kuwait, Oman, and Qatar. Brahimi is pushing for Syrian government and opposition representatives to sit down to negotiations together. Prior to Brahimi’s trip, 19 Islamist insurgent groups opposing President Al Assad voiced opposition to the Geneva II conference.
