(VOVWORLD) - The UN has warned that if the Middle East conflict does not end by mid-2026 and oil prices remain above 100 USD per barrel, the number of people facing severe hunger in 2026 could reach an unprecedented record.

At a press briefing on Tuesday, UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq said the World Food Program (WFP) has estimated an additional 45 million people could be added to the 318 million who are already experiencing food insecurity.

Farhan Haq reiterated the UN’s position that there is no military solution to the conflict and called for an end to hostilities.
