Griffiths, who is in charge of Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief and Secretary-General of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Rebeca Grynspan are set to travel to Moscow to discuss the deal with Russian officials.

Griffiths added that UN officials were working “deeply and intensely” to extend and expand it, to possibly include more fertilizer and additional capacity.

He emphasized that the distribution of ammonia, a key ingredient in nitrate fertilizer, to the world is the highest priority now, adding that farmers needed to know soon about availability in time for next year’s harvest.
