The first international treaty banning nuclear weapons will enter into force in January next year after 90 days.

Peter Maurer, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), said in a statement that the victory is for humanity and promises a safer future.

In its Twitter account, the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), which has played a key role in boosting the UN to adopt the TPNW and was presented with the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize, informed Honduras as the 50th state country to ratify the TPNW, triggering entry into force and making history.
