The top U.N. spokesman Martin Nesirky said that the armistice agreement had been adopted by the U.N. General Assembly and neither North Korea nor South Korea could dissolve it unilaterally. Meanwhile, the UN Chief Ban Ki-moon called on Pyongyang to follow the agreement, stressing it is a major document.

The country’s main newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, reported Monday that the armistice was annulled on March 11th and that North Korea’s weapons are in place, suggesting the possibility that North Korea may implement further nuclear tests or other military activities.

In another development, North Korea’s KCNA News Agency on Tuesday reported that the country’s leader Kim Jong-un had paid visits to front-line military units near the western sea border on Monday. He visited the Wolnae Islet Defense Detachment and a long-range artillery sub-unit of KPA Unit 641 near the South's western border island of Baengnyeong. The leader called on the troops to be strong if their enemies made any provocative moves.
