The US, France, Japan, Malta, South Korea, Slovenia, and Britain requested the meeting, the diplomats said.
Japanese authorities reported that the missile flew for about 86 minutes and to a possible altitude of 7,000 kilometers before falling into the sea west of Okushiri Island in northern Hokkaido, outside Japan's exclusive economic zone.
North Korea said Friday it had successfully test-fired the new Hwasong-19 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) the previous day, and leader Kim Jong-un said Pyongyang has secured the "irreversible" status of having the means to deliver nuclear weapons.
