UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg on the same day expressed his hope that the truce would be renewed after two months. He said that the warring sides agreed to halt all offensive military, air, ground and maritime operations inside Yemen and across its borders, starting at 7 pm Saturday. The truce would also allow fuel imports into Hodeidah and some flights resuming from Sanaa airport. The announcement was out when negotiations over the long-running conflict in Yemen are underway in Saudi Arabia.
Last week, Yemen’s Houthi denied participating in negotiations, but then unexpectedly proposed a temporary ceasefire and prisoner exchange.
This is the first ceasefire agreement reached by the parties since April 2020.
