The draft resolution reaffirms the shared mission of the Court and the United Nations to maintain international peace and security, peacefully settle international disputes, and progressively develop international law, reiterates the General Assembly’s invitation for the Court to participate in its sessions as an observer, and recognizes the Court’s important contribution to the peaceful settlement of disputes.

The overwhelming approval of the resolution by UN member countries shows the international acknowledgement of the importance of the PCA’s role.

As one of the countries where the Court has a representative office, Vietnam actively worked for the resolution’s approval. Vietnam plans to organize activities to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the Permanent Court of Arbitration and promote cooperation with the Court.

The Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) is an intergovernmental organization with 122 member states, whose function is to facilitate the settlement of disputes between countries or between countries and legal entities in economics and investment.

The PCA has assisted in resolving many international disputes related to borders, territories, maritime delimitations, economics, and investment.

Vietnam participated in PCA in 2012 through joining the 1907 Convention on settling international disputes

The PCA currently has its headquarters in the Peace Palace in The Hague, Netherlands, and representative offices in Singapore, Mauritius, Buenos Aires (Argentina),  Vienna (Austria) and Ha Noi (Viet Nam).
