The resolution drew support from 122 delegations, while 50 voted against it, and 4 abstained. It urges all UN members to make a political commitment to not be the first to place weapons in outer space.
The UN General Assembly will urge an early commencement of substantive work based on this updated version of a 2008 draft agreement on prevention of deployment of weapons in space and use of force or threat of force against space objects, introduced by Russia and China.
