(VOVWORLD) - The UN Security Council unanimously agreed Wednesday to extend its sanctions mandate on Yemen through November, which will continue the asset freeze on Yemeni entities and travel ban on ten designated individuals.

The mandate mainly targets top leaders of the Houthi rebel group who are engaged in the ongoing conflict in the country.

This resolution doesn’t change the sanctions currently imposed on Yemen, but only specifies November 15 this year as a new deadline to lift these measures.

In addition, the resolution also extends the mandate of UN experts to monitor the implementation of sanctions until December 15.

The UN Security Council reaffirmed the imposition of an arms embargo against the Houthis over the past year, under which the measure will remain in place indefinitely.
