(VOVworld)- The National Assembly’s External Relations Commission, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and UNICEF organized a seminar to introduce the UN Convention on the Rights of the Disabled. Delegates to the seminar discussed the main content of the Convention, the situation of and policies for disabled Vietnamese people, and the Convention’s compatibility with the Vietnamese legal system. High on the agenda was also the international Conventions on Human Rights to which Vietnam is a signatory, roadmaps to implement policies for the disabled, and Vietnam’s opportunities and challenges in realizing the Convention. The Head of the National Assembly’s Office Tran Van Hang said the UN Convention on the Rights of the Disabled is the most comprehensive convention in ensuring the legitimate rights and interests of the disabled. Vietnam signed the Convention on October 22, 2007, but has not yet approved it.
