(VOVworld) – The UN Development Program (UNDP) has released its report on the security situation in Latin American countries, saying that the region remains one of the most troublesome spots in terms of security in the world, although their economies have improved remarkably. In its report released on Tuesday in New York, the UNDP said that over the past 10 years,  Latin America has seen evident economic development and a rapid increase in crimes, including homicides and robberies. Each year, more than 100,000 people are killed and between 2000 and 2010 more than 1 million people were killed. According to UNDP, insecurity has seriously hindered the region’s socio-economic development. UNDP experts called on regional countries to boost economic growth and narrow the wealth gap, thus reducing crimes.
