Ukraine’s Parliament rejects acting Prime Minister Arseny Yatsenyuk’s resignation

Parliamentary speaker Oleksander Turchinov said the legislative body approved the 2014 revised state budget, one of Yatsenyuk’s failed proposals that led to his resignation. Yatsenyuk announced his resignation on July 24, criticizing the parliament for not approving energy bills and laws to boost military spending. His announcement raised concern about a political crisis in Ukraine. The resignation was believed to be triggered by the withdrawal from the coalition of the UDAR faction of Vitali Klitschko and the nationalist bloc Svoboda of Oleg Tyagnybok and the collapse of the ruling European Choice Coalition.
