The House of Lords just voted 358 to 256 in favor of amending the Brexit bill. The government said it will take the issue of securing the rights of EU citizens very seriously, but they were determined to pass a “straightforward, simple bill”. The House of Lords vote sends the Brexit bill into a ping-pong between the House of Commons and the House of Lords, which could delay its passage into law at least a week. The House of Lords demands a guarantee of the rights of EU citizens living in the UK after Brexit.  But the government says a one-sided guarantee could damage the rights of British people living in Europe.
