Erdogan said after talks with Russia's Vladimir Putin on Monday that it would soon be possible to revive the grain deal that the United Nations says helped to ease a food crisis by getting Ukrainian grain to market.

Erdogan was quoted by Turkish channel TRT as saying the latest UN proposal sought to address some Russian demands. It included a mechanism similar to the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications (SWIFT) payments system, and that work was underway regarding ship insurance, he said.

The UN General Assembly is set for September 18 to 26 in New York.
